Funding Applications


These are some of the organisation that give grants to Early Childhood Centres:

COGs - (Community Organisations Grants Scheme) closes July
More information available via their website.

  1. Log on to www.cdgo.govt.nz
  2. Click on ‘Apply for funding.’
  3. Enter your group’s Username & Password.  Forgotten these details? Use the email prompt provided or phone 0800 824 824. (Note: if you are a first time applicant you will need to Register first.)
  4. On your group’s Home Page you’ll see your application history. Click on the 2005 application number.
    On the right hand side of your screen will be a menu bar. Click on ‘Add Accountability Report.’
  5. Complete the Accountability Report for your group’s 2005 COGS grant.
    Print, sign and post to P.O. Box 30 454, Lower Hutt.
  6. On the menu bar to the right of your 2005 application number click on ‘Copy’ application.
  7. Edit your group’s 2005 application for this year’s funding round. Press ‘Submit.’
  8. Print the Client Agreement Form and, if applicable, the Financial Verifier’s Checklist & Statement.
    (Note: if your group has its annual accounts audited this form is not required.)
  9. Post your group’s annual accounts (no older than 16 months), the Client Agreement Form which has been signed by 2 office holders and, if applicable, the Financial Verifier’s Checklist & Statement which has been completed by a suitably qualified person who is independent of your group, to P O Box 30 454, Lower Hutt.

Community Trust of Wellington - applications always open.
The Trust distributes donations to groups in the Wellington region for cultural, sporting, community support, educational and health purposes (website). Applications available at local libraries.

Health Sponsorship Council - applications always open.
Projects funded include those promoting a healthy lifestyle through sporting/recreational and cultural activities More information is available via their website or phone: (04) 472 5777.

Lion Foundation - applications always open.
Application forms are held at hotels and taverns operated by hotels that the Lion Foundation operates. Applications should be made through the Hotel Manager who will notify applicants of the result. There is no set upper limit to grants but the average grant is $2000. The Fund does not support individuals. More information available via their website or phone: 0800 802 908.

Pelorus Trust – applications always open.
Grants to schools or other educational institutions need to be for the provision of equipment or services that foster continuous learning and development. The Trust will not fund teacher salaries, or general running costs, eg. electricity, gas, telephone. The Trust meets twice a month. Meeting dates are posted on the website. You can apply on line or by post.

Phoenix Trust - applications always open.
Funding is generally given for charitable or sporting purposes that will benefit a section of the community in a non-commercial sense. More information is available via their website or phone: (04) 499 5950.

Pub Charity Inc and New Zealand Community Trust – applications always open.
This is where you can apply for a grant through a gaming machine society. The website gives you information about gaming machine societies which distribute grants to community groups, generally for charitable or amateur sporting purposes. You can pick up an application form at one of the society's sites. The Wellington regional area which includes the Wairarapa and up the Kapiti Coast gives you a list of all the hotels and taverns where you can pick up application forms. The Southern Trust – applications always open.
Will consider applications for operating expenses but for a maximum period of 3 months only. Will not consider applications for administration salaries or staff expenses.

Tower Trust – Winton & Margaret Bear Charitable Trust closes 31 October 2006
Information about the criteria for funding is available via their website or phone: (04) 495 0995.

Trust House – applications always open.
Grant between $1,000 and $5,000 but for specific projects they do have some $10,000 and $20,000 grant. Project needs to be beneficial to the community Focus on safety and educational resources that will help extend and support children's development. – Phone: (06) 370 0527.

The Trusts Charitable Foundation – applications always open.
Funding for special building projects, student scholarships, specialised equipment and assistance with activities and programmes, e.g. field trips. More information available via their website or phone: (06) 367 3542.

T G McCarthy Trust Fund - Closes March 2007
This grant is administered by Wellington Community Childcare Assocation. Funding is given to Early Childhood Education Centres and Out of School Care Programmes in the Lower North Island. Primarily for building and playground improvement, or for projects that address health and safety hazards. Maximum grant per centre is $2000. WCCCA T.G. Macarthy Trust Funds allocated for 2006

In 2006 WCCCA received $22,000 from the T G Macarthy Trust to distribute to Early Childhood Education and Care centres and OSCAR programmes in the lower North Island. We received 17 applications from Early Childhood Education and Care centres. The total amount requested was $23,306. We allocated $14,000 to 17 centres. We received 12 applications from OSCAR programmes. The total amount requested was $22,963, and $10,000 was allocated.
